Surgical Orthodontics with Invisalign

When the jaws don't line up, orthodontics and surgery work together. We plan it with the surgeon and tell you honestly whether you need it.

When surgery is part of the plan

Orthognathic surgery corrects jaw positions that orthodontics alone can’t. It applies once growth is complete — typically after 16 in girls and 18 in boys — when the jaws don’t meet correctly and a healthy bite can’t be achieved with tooth movement alone.

Our approach

We treat many cases without surgery that other offices refer out, including open bites and Class II corrections — but we also know when surgery is the right answer. Your consultation gives you a straight assessment either way. If surgery is needed, we plan the case with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and coordinate care throughout.

The Bella Smile Surgical Appliance

For select cases, we use our own Bella Smile Surgical Appliance, developed to make orthognathic surgery possible with Invisalign alone — no TADs, no braces. It works with any orthognathic surgeon, giving patients a fully clear, removable option through the surgical process.

  • Compatible with Invisalign from start to finish
  • No TADs needed
  • No braces needed
  • Works with any orthognathic surgeon

What the process looks like

  • Orthodontic preparation with braces or aligners
  • Surgery in hospital, followed by roughly two weeks of rest
  • Orthodontic finishing, usually six to twelve months
  • Retention

As with any surgery, there are risks, and we’ll discuss them with you in detail before anything is decided.
